![]() ![]() The last few years (when I can be disciplined enough to stay consistent) I check-in with my Instagram followers and ask them some questions on Wednesdays to gauge how their week is going. During these wild times in the world, striving for wellness is more important than ever. I’m a big believer that if you want to work towards or maintain wellness, you have to check-in with yourself and you have to do so regularly. All of these activities can help begin a self-reflection practice.Anyone who has been following on my Instagram me for a while knows that I’m a huge proponent of maintaining mental, physical, & emotional wellness (I also think spiritual wellness is important but it’s something I don’t really talk about as much on my platforms). You could try reading, getting out in the fresh air for a walk, or completing some low impact exercise like yoga. Meditation comes in so many forms, so explore which ones work for you. ![]() Breathing exercises are a great way to slow down, clear the mind and focus.įind out more and explore how to use conscious breathing to support your mental health. Steadying the mind by connecting with your breath before reflecting, can help you to think more clearly, openly and honestly. Asking yourself those important questions and hearing your response can help you to recognise different thoughts and feelings and enable you to find clarity, express yourself and take notice of how far you’ve come. If you fancy trying out another form of reflecting, why not try audio journaling? Simply record yourself voicing your stream of thoughts, either via the voice recorder on your phone, or on another recording device. ![]() The journal provides a place for you to look back on your journey as you move forward. Putting pen to paper helps you to release your thoughts out in the open, can provide clarity, and can often be rather revealing. Write out each question and answer in a reflections journal. How did I reach that goal? How am I feeling today? What could I improve on, based on what I’ve learnt this year? Identify the important questions you want to ask yourself about habits, achievements and feelings, from the period of time you are reflecting on.Į.g. Depending on how much time you put aside and the environment you’re in, you can use different methods to complete your practice.ġ. There isn’t a right or wrong way to practise self-reflection - everyone is different. While it may feel uncomfortable to look back on some experiences, particularly challenging ones, acknowledging your previous actions, what you’ve overcome and what you’ve learnt as a result enables you to move forward with an empowered and fresh outlook on life. Practising self-reflection is an effective way to encourage growth, both personally and professionally. ![]() Time is invaluable when making decisions, and practising self-reflection gives you the opportunity to allow time to review, before making more informed decisions. Whether it’s a colleague, friend, family member or loved one, practising self-reflection is beneficial for evaluating how you feel about the relationship, rather than simply being reactive. Self-reflection gives you time to assess relationships as well as situations. Reflecting allows you to dedicate time to not only improve your circumstances and nurture your wellbeing, but also consider new opportunities – paths you hadn’t realised were open to you or opportunities that you are yet to take advantage of. Whether in your work or personal life, being open to adopting a mindful and productive approach can ease feelings of stress and uncertainty. Taking time to understand what has gone well and what has been a challenge will help you in future situations. The practice is commonly used to help narrow focus, highlight areas of improvement, and ultimately, help individuals to reach their goals. There are many benefits of self-reflection. ![]()
